Video from a Friend.
By Norm Seeley | April 1, 2010
Back around 1967 I was asked to leave KRUX, nice way of saying I was fired, and withing a month I was going to work at KOOL, AM/FM and Television.
On KOOL radio, Duane Brady was the Program Director and he had the station sounding a lot like KMPC in L.A. It was a CBS affiliate paying middle of the road music.
I hadn’t been there 3 weeks, and it was announced that the radio General Manager was being changed and the new manager was bringing in the entire staff from KOY radio also in Phoenix. .
I could see the writing on the wall but decided I just see what happened.
One of these days I will tell you more about what happened but this blog is about Duane and how we became friends.
Quickly we got along after I joined KOOL, but with a new GM at the station, it wasn’t too long before he left the station.
I talked to him several times over the years do to what I did for KOOL, but it wasn’t until I myself left KOOL, almost 10 years later and then left Phoenix for Las Vegas , then Florida and finally returned before Duane and I found that we have a lot in common and that’s when I duplicated the video that you’re about to see.
Duane handled several Public Relations jobs and also worked with the Arizona Department Of Public Safety, and the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Department.
When he and I renewed our friendship, he was with the Arizona Highway Department.
The video you are about to see, I duplicated for him in March 2005, and we continued to see each other for a couple of years, having lunch about once a month.
He passed away in April 2008. This I found out the hard way, I had called to schedule a lunch and got no return calls. Then I just happened to come across a website that announced his passing. It would have been nice had his office at least had the courtesy to call back and inform me that he had died.
Take a look at the video. Duane had a lot of talent and it was used here in Phoenix.
