Live Radio.
By Norm Seeley | October 19, 2009

In December, 1967 I was working on KOOL AM in Phoenix Arizona, doing the 6 PM to Midnight shift.
KOOL was the CBS Radio affiliate for Phoenix, each night, Monday through Friday, we had network programs on from 6 PM to 7 PM. I was the announcer who ran those programs. I would do station breaks, air commercials, and run the network programs.
It was December 1st, a Friday, it was time for Lowell Thomas with the news, I rolled the tape and here is what I heard and what went out on the air. In those days we had tape and it was easy enough to record a program and if you made a mistake, edit the tape and take the mistake out. There is no question that CBS did that, but not this particular night, not with this particular show.
What is below, is going to take about 8 minutes. But it’s interesting just to hear some of the stories he read, and then how he ended the program.
A word of caution, don’t bail out too soon.
For this edition of normradio.com, I have used my computer to edit out the two commercials, all the rest is what was sent down by CBS that night and aired on KOOL with me running the board.
