Norm Knows

By Norm Seeley | July 9, 2009

My name is Norm.   I guess I didn’t need to tell you that, in just the first few seconds of scanning the blog you can find my name.  In fact, now that I think about it, it’s included in the title.  Norm.  That was easy.

I just wanted you to know just how smart I am.  I am a person who has survived in this world for 65….almost 66 years.

The reason I am mentioning that is because I’m someone who you should listen to.  I have survived a lot of different things and have a lot of Street knowledge.  And I have been involved in several different industries, and even owned and run my own businesses also in different industries so I have some smarts in this head.

I know they are talking about a “bad economy” but if you work hard you can do whatever and survive anything.  Just looking at the  several business magazines I get monthly, there are stories after stories of individuals who have built business from scratch  even now.  This is America, it can be done.

I think one of the smartest things I did in the half a dozen business I was involved in was to always make sure I had business insurance .

Here’s a story you might find interesting, I have even walked away unharmed from having a taxi driver pull a gun on me just sitting in my car.

I was in a news cruiser  for a radio  station I was working for,and was sitting beside the road in Downtown Denver late at night when a cab pulled up beside me, and the driver yelled something at me while waving a gun in my direction.

I was putting together my next report, writing notes and looked up to find a 45 aimed at my head.  Funny as it may seem, I smiled at the man, and calmly said, “You don’t want to do that”, and looked back down at my note pad.

I bet you’re thinking  Norm, you are one fearless dude.   I think it was about then that I realized what had just happened.  He had sped off, burning rubber as he did.  Sweat was starting to cover my head.   I picked up the mike from the dash, and told the announcer at the Radio Station my location and send the cops.

Within three minutes my news cruiser was surrounded by 4 Patrol Cars with lights and sirens.  I told the first officer to my car what had happened and even though it only took a matter of seconds,   I had caught  what cab company it was from and it’s  number.

The officer used his portable radio and put out a APB for the cab and it’s driver.  I was out of the vehicle now standing next to it as the other officers came closer.  By the time they were all near by, their radios came alive with a report that the cab had

He was brought back to our location and I made an ID and said that was the man.  The gun had been found under the front seat of the cab.  The cab driver was off to jail for the night.  Having a gun in a cab was against the law.   So that was at least one thing he was charged with.

I never had to appear in court so I can’t tell you much more than what happened that night in Downtown Denver.   I have remembered it though every once in a while over the years.

Another reason why I have always belived I live a blessed life.

    A sawed-off 12 gauge always beats a 45 at close range. (Ahem.)

If the 45 hits it’s mark, I believe it does a good job. Would one call it a “Cleaner” kill.
