Living in the Past Two
By Norm Seeley | July 1, 2009

The promotion department at KOOL AM?FM and TV was great. The newspapers in Phoenix at least once a month had great ads promoting the radio stations. The promo above is for the time I was on the FM.
The studios had all RCA Equipment from the Microphone, turntables (16 inch models), to the Tape Decks. The only equipment not RCA was the Cart Machines, they were ATC. (Really important information)
If my memory service me correctly, I had been doing afternoons on the AM and something bothered me, and I wanted to leave. Don’t remember what it was, but I asked to be relieved of all the duties that went with doing the AM afternoon drive and being the Music Director and Assistant PD.
I think I wanted just to return to the 7-12 midnight shift on the AM, as well as doing traffic in the afternoon from a news vehicle which I had started out doing. At least that what I think I wanted as I think back to those days.
The radio management was just taking the FM from an automated background station to a contemporary music station with live jocks and they asked me to work afternoons.
I agreed to move to the FM because for the first time in my radio career, I only had to work Monday through Friday.
With a young family, it gave me more time to be with them.
Overall my experience with KOOL was positive.
I learned a lot.
Became a top notch interviewer, learning to listen rather than interject my thoughts into an interview. got to report traffic from the field live and got to be the Music Director and Assistant PD as well as move from evenings to afternoons on the AM then afternoons on the FM.
I remember that I enjoyed being on the air at KOOL AM as well as the FM. My skills as an announcer (jock) reached their peak and my God given talents and my voice were put to very good use.
People always ask if I miss being on the air.
How do you think I would respond?
