The Mail is here.

By Norm Seeley | June 20, 2009

Here it is Saturday and I have been spending some time on my computer doing I guess what you call surfing.

Have I found anything interesting?  Yes and No.   I have a tendency to look at the same stuff or look for the same stuff.  Microphones, Video Cameras, stuff like that.  So I guess that it’s “Limited Surfing”.

I also like to check the mail.  Yes I’m talking about Mail that comes from the US Post Office.  It is delivered each day right to the mail box next to our front door.  There used to be a slot in the front wall so the mail would drop on to the floor in the living room.  But for whatever reason, I plugged up the slot and put a mail box and the wall.  Now, if I want to get the mail, I have to open the front door, step outside, lift the top of the box and there it is.

What kind of mail do I receive?   Weekly there is a lot of junk mail.  Of course a lot of bills.   Letters, wedding invitations, Post Cards, Advertisements, Magazines, and the list goes on and on.

When I first moved into this house it seemed like the mail would be here no later than 10:30 in the morning.  But lately it seems like it’s getting later in the day.  And really it’s not a set time of day when it gets here.   I would like really to be able to know that each day,  the mail would be here at….and it wouldn’t vary more than 30 minutes.  I guess it’s because I would like to maybe plan my day around when the mail arrived.

It’s nice that we receive mail Monday through Saturday, but I wouldn’t mind so much if it only came Monday through Friday.  I could live with that.  Going back to what I said above, if it came at a set time each day, that would make it even better if Saturday delivery were dropped.

Then at least you would know that our mail will be here each day, Monday through Friday at 2:15 PM, plus or minus 30 minutes.  I could live with that.  What do you think?

Mail is sort of important to us too. I agree, no mail on Saturday I could live with, but I think it is Monday they are thinking of eliminating. We have a strange mail box situation. Everyone in Russelville has their own box at the end of their driveway, EXCEPT for we special people on Apex Road. There is a cul-de-sac off of Apex Road that is not in (low end) Russelville, but is in (high end) Pine Knolls. Apex is a gravel road, but the cul-de-sac is paved! It seems the Post Office did not know what to do with the 5 homes on Apex, so they just gave us a box in the Pine Knolls community mail box. Not as romantic as the box at the end of the driveway, but it does lock, so way more secure. Funny, our box is number two, there is no number one, that is the out going mail box drop, so it would appear our house is the oldest on Apex and/or the Cul-de-Sac. Ahhhh, Seniority! That and a buck fifty will buy you a cup of coffee!
