Colorado on my mind
By Norm Seeley | March 12, 2009
I was out of the house this morning driving around Scottsdale, nothing really exciting, just making a quick run to the bank. And for what ever reason my mind started thinking about Colorado.
If you know me, or have read my blog before you know that I grew up in Denver, went to camp in Estes Park for several summers before I started working during the summer.

Estes Park, Colo
Up in Estes Park, I was exposed to horse back riding and at least once each summer, the camp participated in a Parade through downtown Estes Park. No it’s nothing like a Parade through Downtown Denver, but for a teenage kid on his favorite horse, I didn’t care. I thought it was great fun and I had the only horse who got nervous and “Pranced” from beginning to end. It’s a miracle I still have a functioning kidney.
Even though the Parade was a Special Event, I did not wear breeches .
Just Levis and White shirts. And lets not forget cowboy boots.
One of those parades, I need to calm my horse down so I got off. And was standing close to her on her left front side. A loud noise, (car back fire or the like) and she went straight up in the air. Yes, it was my right foot that she came down on. So the rest of that day was spent in a nearby hospital having the foot X-rayed. Didn’t break but it did hurt. As for me riding the horse again….I was back on her the next day, and I did so the next two summers.
If only horses lived as long as people.
