Up and Down.
By Norm Seeley | November 12, 2008
Since yesterday I have been so happy with the fact that once again the wheelchair ramp on our van works. It goes up and down and it does so, almost quietly. That is quite a difference from the last couple of weeks when the gear box went bad and when it came down, it did so with a BANG! The metal of the ramp hitting concrete is not a pleasant sound. And if you hadn’t lost your hearing already, it would certainly speed up the loss. As for going up, that required one person, namely me, to manually lift the ramp. That while not the most difficult thing I have done in my life, wasn’t the most fun. Luckily the door continued to function with the built in motor. When you consider that it was designed to allow for manual operation should there be a power failure or in this case a failure of the gear box, that made sure that we could continue to use the vehicle to go places. We didn’t have to find another way to get around Scottsdale. Happy for that.
I guess that I should be over joyed with the fact that I have been given more daily exercise lifting that ramp. Karen, my sweet wife, is not one to stay home. So I could count on her, making sure that we would go out and I would in turn have to lift the ramp and be put through my lifting exercises. Had it been up to me, I would have considered using some best diet pills prior to any thing physical. I just never have been an athletic person, don’t like watching it, and don’t like doing it.

OH by the way, this is the first time we have had a problem like this in the wheelchair van we own. Considering that I have owned 7 of these units and used them in a wheelchair van rental business, I think that shows that the design is good and is reliable. Way to go Braun.
