Ramp to the left leg
By Norm Seeley | October 26, 2008
I told you yesterday, 10/25, that the ramp in our wheelchair van has stopped working correctly. Wife Karen suggested that I be there and stop it from making such a loud noise each time it’s lowered so that she can get in or out of the van. Not a bad idea, so rather than me sitting in the drivers seat as usual when I lowered the ramp or using the remote control from afar. I decided that I would stand on the passenger side as the door slid open and the ramp came down. As we got into the van this morning, there I was. Opened the door, and put a bungie cord on the end of the ramp. I had stopped the motion while doing this. I pushed the control, thinking that I was standing far enough away for the ramp to lower and for me to slow it’s fall to the ground. WRONG…I was an inch too close and the ramp hit my left leg with all it’s force. IT HURT. But, it was almost silent as it struck my leg. I made up for it with a yell of OUCH!!!!!
I am a quick learner. The ramp did not hit me again the three additional times I had to lower it so far today. As for my leg, by tomorrow there’s going to be one big bruise. A Badge of Courage???

Here is the ramp in the down position. Just think about it coming down, full force and hitting your leg. OUCH!
