Norm and Football
By Norm Seeley | October 17, 2008

When I attended Graland Country Day School in Denver I played foot ball on the schools team. Can you imagine that? I played center. Even back then I was 6’4″ but didn’t weigh very much. Just one tall, skinny kid. Then it was off to high school here in Arizona. And for maybe one year, possibly two years I was on the team too. It was 8 man teams, a little different, a little rougher. When I learned that I didn’t have to play, I think I made the decision in less than 30 seconds, count them. I was not a football person, let alone a player.
After high school, while attending the University of Denver that in my first year there, did away with football, I got connected filming the weekly football games of Graland. I had purchased a Bolex camera with a great zoom lens and each Friday afternoon I would return to Graland there at 30 Birch or go to where the game was being played and stand on the side lines and film the action. Friday night I would run the exposed film to be processed and on Monday would take it back to be viewed by Dave Rice who ran the football program there at Graland. I didn’t get paid a lot, but I do believe he paid for the film and processing, and for me that was enough. My film was pretty good. Back in those days it was Black and White but it was Sharpe and easy to see the action. I didn’t win any football trophies with it, but I sure had fun do it any way.
