Just Walkin in the Arizona Heat!
By Norm Seeley | August 6, 2008
Today, Karen and I took advantage of a Lunch Club promotion that allowed us to visit the new California Pizza Kitchen at the Tempe Market Place and save 20%.
The thing that struck me, as we came close was parking. Tempe Market Place is “an outdoor Mall”, and handicapped parking, that would allow us to park, let down the ramp for Karen’s wheelchair, and do the same when we were through with lunch, was at least a block and a quarter to a half from the restaurant itself. We got there around one in the afternoon and nedless to say, it was hot. Over 100 degrees.
During the last several weeks, one of the stories that we see on local television and hear on the radio is about hikers being dehydrated as they climb around the local trails. Walking a block and a half for me is about the same thing. One fire person was quoted on one TV story saying that drinking water the day before is as important as water on the day one is hiking. Dehydration can start that early. To be honest, in our case that wasn’t a fear. Karen always has water close by and I drink other things and include water every once in a while. So that wasn’t a concern at all.

I did get to thinking though that this would be, should anything happen, a good situation to be wearing medical jewelry . Should anything happen, all the information is right there and quickly available.
