And today is!

By Norm Seeley | August 2, 2008

Today is my birthday!

The BIG 65!

But what was it like more than 40 years ago?

Now take a look at August the 2nd live in the KOOL Studio, with me leading Happy Birthday with Johnny Johnson holding a mike that you can’t see, so the singers can be heard on the air. I wish I had a tape.

The picture survived a flood in one of my houses, that’s why it looks like it does. Sadly Johnny passed away many years ago. He was a good broadcaster and we grew to be good friends.

Below is a letter written to KOOL about John and I.

We had the only private vehicle in the state of Arizona that was equipped with a two-way radio to the Highway Patrol.

Both John and I were active members of the Highway Patrol Reserve which allowed us to talk directly to Phoenix Dispatch and other Highway Patrol officers while we were out reporting traffic.  Of course there was a radio linking the vehicle with KOOL and about every 10 minutes, I would report on traffic.

When I moved to being on the air in the afternoon, after that letter was written, my traffic reporting days came to an end.

Miss em!
