Friday’s Music

for

May 2, 2008

Each week I record songs from the time I worked on the air for radio stations in Denver, Colorado and here in Phoenix. I spent years working on AM radio stations. FM was just starting to “come alive” in those days. I remember while I was attending the University of Denver, and working at KIMN, which was the top rocker in the city. DU was offered a 50,000 watt FM station and they turned the offer down. Even then I couldn’t believe how the Radio-TV Department there could have not jumped at the chance to get hold of such a facility. I remember having one conversation with the head of the department, needless to say, I don’t think I made any points with him as I told him what I thought of their decision. OH Well, that didn’t stop me from working while attending college.

About the same time, my parents sold their house that was in the Center of Denver and moved down to Scottsdale. Before they had come down each winter and stayed at a place called the Ride N Rock. So I had to find places to stay. First it was a dorm at DU. I have no fond memories. Then I lived in a one room apartment in a house near the campus. OK, but no big deal. Then, I got the opportunity to move into the apartment above the garage behind the Longs house. This was very close to Cheeseman park, my old stomping grounds. I had a roommate who also was in radio. It was a small but great apartment looking out over the Denver botanical Gardens. About the only thing we had to supply was bedding. OH Yes, food was up to us.

Good music to go with the worst chore of the week–family budget.

    Thanks again, Norm.
