Friday’s Music
for
April 25, 2008

What we try to do each week with Friday’s Music is play music that was from the time when I actually worked on the air at several different rock stations in Denver and Phoenix. I sometimes play music that I played as oldies, so it goes back into the 50s. Both of the major stations that I did work for, followed the charts of sales in the respective areas a long with subscribing to Billboard Magazine. Now Billboard would check sales nationally, as well as talk with the record companies themselves and to radio station to see what they were playing on their stations.
When here in Phoenix, I would talk weekly to Billboard, as well as a couple of other “Music Charters” who had their own weekly or monthly Music newsletters. This way they would find out what songs were being played and by which stations.
One of the nice things about today is that music can be listened to here on the internet and you can take it with you with mp3 players. Don’t have to haul around a record player, speakers, and an amplifier. Or how about the 8 track tape players installed in your car. A pair of earphones, and an mp3, and you’re all set.
