Yes, It helps.

By Norm Seeley | March 29, 2008

I don’t hide the fact that I’m hard of hearing. If you are near me, one look at my head and you can see that I’m wearing hearing aids. Now don’t get me wrong, I’m happy with the aids, but it’s not like normal hearing. If you’re hard of hearing and go into a store that sells hearing aids and they tell you their product will restore your normal hearing, don’t wait, don’t hesitate, get up and walk out. That’s not what’s going to happen. I know.

Any way, that’s not the point of my blog today, it’s about watching TV. For the most part I can understand what is being said on the TV. Turn up the treble on the aids and that improves how I hear. The last thing I will adjust is the volume. But I like to watch British shows.

Totally new ball game. The British, as if you didn’t know already have a different way of doing things. And without getting into a lot of detail, how they record sound is one of those things that they do different. Big Time.

So I find that using captioning on the TV helps. This way I can see the dialog as well as hear it. So when I watch MI-5 on BBC America, I always turn on the closed captioning.

Oh for a spot of tea.
