Arizona Surprise!

By Norm Seeley | March 28, 2008

Thursday night, around 6 PM, KK and I decided that we’d go to the store and pick up some things. The store isn’t that far so we were there in just a few minutes. Parked the van, and went inside.

Don’t think that we were in the store for more than 30 minutes, came out. KK rolling ahead and me with my hands full of a couple of those wonderful “plastic” bags. The doorway of the store faces North. To get to the van, we had to come out of the building and turn to the left, or West.

Now, I have lived in Arizona off and on since the 50s, but I was surprised to get hit right in the face with the glare of the Sun reflecting of the concrete walkway that is in front of the store. I mean BRIGHT. I ask KK if she was effected too. She replied Yes. Considering that I am 6′4″ and she is in her wheelchair at maybe half the height, that’s one big glare. Clearly time for Wiley X sunglasses.

Not that we were running, I never run, but it was just a second or so before we were back in our van which too was facing West. Glare time, one more time. This time some coming from windshields of parked cars, and some from the black asphalt. I don’t remember seeing that for a long time.

Arizona continues to surprise me. All most daily I see something amazing and wonderful. No, the glare was a distraction but just the fact that it was produced in nature intrigues me.
