It was part of Business.

By Norm Seeley | March 18, 2008

I have done a lot of things during my life. Primarily I was in broadcasting but in the past 15 years or so I have done a couple other things.

For a while, actually more than 6 years, I ran a Wheelchair Van Rental business here in Scottsdale. Started off with two vans, and when I closed, there were 6. As it turned out, 5 were Mini Vans with ramps, and 1 was a Full-sized Van with a lift. All had hand controls and power swivel drivers chairs.  While the vans weren’t the “top of the Line”, they were well equipped, and very well maintained. That to me was very important.

Thinking back the biggest complaint I had from my customers was how hard it was to find a Handicapped Parking Spot. (Gee, where have I heard that before?) All of the vans had Handicapped Plates. I never rented the vans out to non-handicapped customers to use as cargo vans. At least one person in the party had to be in a wheelchair.

Now during the time I had the company, there were two things that I thought were important to running the business. Shirts with the company logo on them and logo pens.

Being the only employee, I always would wear one of the Logo shirts. I felt that it was important when greeting a customer that I look professional and having a shirt with a Logo on it, sure helps out.

Now the pens also were important to get our company name out, I don’t need to go into detail, you I’m sure understand the value. I made sure that I left a pen in each van, A) as a gift for doing business with me, and B) having something to write with in a strange city, comes in handy.

Somewhere in a drawer, I still have the shirts. The pens…..not a one left. OH WELL!
