We have a Car Port
By Norm Seeley | January 16, 2008
Growing up in Denver , we had a garage out in the back where Dad parked the 49 Nash out of the snow. When I bought my 1960 Corvair, I rented a Garage from a neighbor down the street and would walk down the alley out back after coming home. It was only two houses away, so it wasn’t a long walk and the garage was just big enough for me to get the Corvair in. That’s really all I needed.
Here in Arizona, while there are a lot of houses in Scottsdale and Phoenix that have garages, ours has a Car Port. To one side of our house there is a roof, and the van rolls conveniently under the roof to protect it from the Sun and occasional rain.
Now if I didn’t have a Car Port built onto the house, I would think that the only logical thing to do would be to consider a Car Cover. Doesn’t take a rocket scientist.

OK, up there in the front, come out and tell me straight out……What do you want?

Not many car ports here in Oregon.
You need a garage to protect the car from the rain and cold and occasional sun

When Pat & I lived in Heatherridge, we only had a one car garage, so I got a car cover for my Fiero. I quickly found out it was more trouble that it was worth. Do you have a California Duster for the van? I have one, but I use it for my wood blinds in the house. We have a three car garage, perfect for the Buick, Jeep and two Harleys, plus Pat also manages to get the garden tractor in there between the two cars.

Car ports were the rage when our house was built, and we could convert it to a garage taking it all the way to the property line if we wanted now, giving us a two car garage, but really we don’t have a need for it, since it rarely drops below “freezing” here, nor is it expected too very soon.
Kris, what is a “California Duster”?
Our fleet of vehicles just became smaller today with the donation of Karen’s old wheelchair to the Paralyzed Veterans Org. Now we’re down to One Wheelchair van and One wheelchair. It’s been sitting on our Patio under a tarp and sheet but was still covered with dust when I took them off to get it ready for pick up.
